Free OTP generator app

Generating a one-time password, or OTP, for your accounts is made easier and more secure by the Sophos Authenticator app. This free, handy utility tool is a code generator that produces both time- and counter-based OTPs: TOTPs and HOTPs, according to RFC 6238 and RFC 4226. The codes generated can contain six to eight digits.

With Sophos Authenticator, adding another security layer to your accounts is seamless. You can produce OTPs for apps like Facebook, Instagram, and more by using the app. Moreover, the app works offline, so there’s no need for a stable internet connection for it to work.

Produces OTPs in a jiffy

Sophos Authenticator is a mobile application that generates multifactor authentication codes for internet-connected services such as Google, Dropbox, GitHub, and others. With this, you can set up your own protected environment and protect your account against any unauthorized access. It generates an OTP password for each login you make and uses the time or event—if the app is closed, for instance—to create that code.

You don’t have to worry about remembering the code for each login; just install the app, configure it, then it will generate OTPs you can use to log in. In order to generate an OTP, the app will require you to enter the account and your password. You also have to choose the counter and the time duration in which the OTP is valid.

The time duration for TOTPs is not limited to just 30 seconds, though, so you can extend them according to your preferences. Although, having to enter your private accounts’ passwords into a third-party app such as this one can be a bit iffy for some users. If you don’t want to risk that, you can sit this one out instead.

Different OTPs for different accounts

Enabling two-factor authentication for your apps will be a breezy process with the Sophos Authenticator app. It’s capable of generating TOTPs and HOTPs in just a few clicks. You can add different accounts to the app and have separate OTP conditions for them. However, you will have to enter your passwords in order to generate OTPs, which can be discomforting for some users.

PROS

  • Generates OTPs for almost any account
  • Can generate both time- and counter-based OTPs

CONS

  • Requires you to disclose your passwords
